Lipoma definitions and terms.
Abdominal Lipoma
This is a rare growth that develops over the abdomen, and
may reach the size of a tennis ball, which can cause a sharp stinging pain
within the sufferer.
Atypical Lipoma
This is a benign growth, typically developing to the rear of
the shoulders, neck and back of older males. These are also referred to as
pleomorphic lipoma.
Canine Lipoma
This is a lipoma type that arises in dogs, generally benign,
consisting of adipose tissue, affecting adult dogs in the main.
Episacral Lipoma
Fatty cysts, about half an inch across, that protrude from
the lumbar region. Also known as fatty tumours, and can often develop as a
result of injury or trauma.
This is a relatively common, benign type of lipoma, that infiltrates
skeletal muscle, leading to it also being referred to as infiltrating lipoma.
Intraosseous Lipoma
This is a rare and benign type of bone lesion. Typically
diagnosed via MR scans, CT scans and X-rays , usually found while investigating
an unconnected condition.
